PhD Thesis

Title: Recycling of aluminum with special consideration of special metals

Concerning the aluminum recycling process there are hardly any studies on the behavior of special metals during the individual process stages. The main focus of this work consider the elements of the rare earths – especially scandium, since its effect in aluminum is positive, but the price is (still) very high. Furthermore, special metals such as gallium and indium, which are in the third main group of the periodic table, as well as lithium, which is undesirable in recycling due to contamination of the metal and uncontrollable dross formation, are of interest in this research project. In particular, the sources of these elements and the distribution between metal and dross or salt slag phase should be investigated.
