The ever-increasing demands in the aluminium industry with regard to the mechanical characteristics and the deformation behaviour of different alloys require a profound analysis of the different influencing factors. In addition to studies of the influence on the material from the process control, attention is also paid to the texture development (= entirety of the orientations of the grains).
Along with the crystalline structure of metals, preferred sliding directions lead to the appearance of process-typical textures (rolling texture, recrystallization texture). The orientations of the individual texture components have a positive as well as a negative effect on the deformability and the mechanical properties of the material. Thus microstructure- and texture-engineering is necessary to meet the demands of advanced materials for future applications.
