In the majority of cases and despite of their metal content contaminated residues, scraps, sludges and dusts are deposited. For this reason, the containing metals are lost for further processes. Due to the physical properties, recycling is restricted to specific cases. For example the particle size distribution and the bulk density of the secondary raw material is associated with the recovery of metal and the ability to charge residues in a recycling unit. The identification of potentially usable residues and their material flow analyses, a comprehensive characterization of the physical, chemical and morphological properties as well as an agglomeration is the basis of a successful metal recovery. Computer-assisted modeling and thermodynamic calculations support the pyrometallurgical experiments. Together with our cooperation partner ATM Recyclingsystems GmbH, our aim is to increase the metal yield in laboratory scale as well as validate and replicate the results in field scale.
